In China, Spring Festival is the common name for Chinese Lunar New Year. It is the biggest festival in China. Spring Festival 2023 falls on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023, beginning a year of the Rabbit.

Two features distinguish it from the other festivals. One is seeing off the old year and greeting the new. The other is family reunion.

In the past, all families would make a throughout house cleaning  in order to sweep away any ill fortune and to make way for incoming good luck. Another custom is the decoration of windows and doors with red paper-cuts and couplets. Popular themes among these paper-cuts and couplets include good fortune or happiness, wealth, and longevity. 

Some countries and regions in the world also have the custom of celebrating the Spring Festival. Some have designated the Lunar New Year as the legal holiday of the whole or some cities under their jurisdiction, such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Mongolia, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.
